Jo-Anne Birchard

Jo-Anne is Professor of Accessible Design at the Royal College of Art Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design. Her research focuses on wellbeing in the built environment and has previously focused on the ageing and ability challenges accessing the city due to poor design of public toilet provision and designing suicide prevention interventions for the city. She led the Challenging Environmental Barriers to Continence research in which The Great British Public Toilet map was developed, and was (with Gail) a finalist in the Economic and Social Research Councils Impact in Society award for the toilet map.
